- I either wasn't there at the time, or don't remember, so I can't comment on
- the reasons for that. Exactly _what_ did you say? ;)
-
- Remember that generally, you should not interpret a kick as "go away and stay
- away", but as "mend your ways and come back" - i.e. if you can't fit in to a
- reasonable extent, people aren't going to let you stick around. IRC is much
- like any other culture in that respect.
-
- In particular, if you are kicked and do not understand why, do NOT immediately
- dive back into the channel and start hurling abuse at the person who kicked
- you or at the channel in general. Doing so is an almost guaranteed way of
- getting yourself re-kicked, and probably banned (at least temporarily) as
- well. Instead, just be polite and sensible, lurk around in the background
- until you know the weird rules, and you will be fine.

- :
- : ?????????
-
- And you think they should be? FYI, most people come to IRC just to chat
- about whatever they feel like, or trade n00die JPEGs or whatever, and most of
- them pay for the opportunity to do so. Whether they are channel operators or
- not, they are under no obligation to set up some sort of free advice line for
- Amiga newbies, answering the same questions over and over again. There are
- FAQs for that sort of thing.
-
- : * what are these folks sitting as ops for, if they *
- : * are not going to bring along new participants???? *
- :
- : Is that not the reason they made themselves ops? What is an op for?
-
- Operators help to manage the channel for themselves and other users. Generally
- they are given ops after being around for some time, so that they can learn
- the strange evolved details of channel etiquette, and when the other operators
- consider them trustworthy. Having channel operator status means no more and
- no less than that.
-
- : It is
- : puzzling to me why any Amiga user would NOT help another, not like there
- : are millions of us around!
-
- Speaking for myself, I try to help people whenever I can, but as I say,
- answering the same questions ad nauseam becomes boring after a while...
